ferritin dropped AGAIN!

I just demanded a blood count, ferritin and iron test from my gp because my hematologist has not been helpful. my ferritin started at 4 went to a 13 after a month on a supplement and now it is a 6. my hemoglobin is 13 and my iron is 35 also my b12 and thyroid are normal. I feel like crap!!!!! obviously my lousy pills are not doing the job. I just take nature made iron, once daily! this is scaring me! any input anyone. Thanks so much!

Re: ferritin dropped AGAIN!

Hey worry, what is the amount of iron that you are taking again? I am so sorry to hear of the news . My ferritin did the same thing in the beginning. I remember going from a 2 to I think a 30 and back down to a 16. It's frustrating and definitely very scary.

Hi, I don't mean to bring up a bad subject but you know sometimes these pills you take do not dissolve. I was taking a very expensive iron $54 a bottle and I found out that I was just passing them. That is when I decided to go on liquid iron. I have to say the liquid iron did not help me, but I have chronic pancreatitis along with stage III kidney disease but others could have the same kind of problem that I was having with the pills. They say a lot of the pills that are being taken just go down the toilet. So we must think about it once in a while! Funny, but not funny!

Re: ferritin dropped AGAIN!

Try and natural food store..they will have it. Get the slow release kind. Instead of all the iron hitting you at once it goes slow all day long. It is lesser but the way I see it we are getting more because instead of it all hitting you at once and your body getting rid of the rest, it goes a little at a time and your body takes it and absorbs it. I will let you know for sure when my numbers come in, but I'm confident it's working. I have been using it for 2 months and about to get my 3rd box. No complaints as of yet.

Re: ferritin dropped AGAIN!

See if you can make an appointment with a hematologist. My Ferritin was a 4 and I had 7 IV transfusions of Ferrex and it went up to 85. Unfortunately it is back down 8 weeks later under 40 and we continue to monitor it. My stomach cant handle oral supplements so this is the way to go for me. I felt better at an 85...now noticing that my stools are looser, my body is colder and I get out of breath easier with it dropping. I am also seeing a Rheumatologist to get to the root of the problem of why my body cant keep the ferritin level up. Seeking auto-immune answers. Hope that helps.... = MK

Hello, I see a hematologist now and he said he doesnt think my symptoms are related to the low ferritin. I don't agree!! I feel like crap!!! I am also very cold!!! My stomach seems to handle the supplements ok. I have lots of stomach issues as it is. I sure hope you find an answer! Keep us posted!
