Re: 8mm Aneurysm

There are different kinds of aneurysms in the brain, if that is what you have, classified according to shape. It is your final decision about whether you get an aneurysm "clipped" so it doesn't rupture. When deciding something as important as this, be sure to understand the statistics and complications of treatment vs. no treatment.

Re: 8mm Aneurysm

Hi michelle,
I too have just found out I have an aneurysm in my brain. I actually have two. One is 8mm x 12mm, the other the neurologist told me she could only see the 4mm side. Both are in the same brain area and the larger one is on the left carotid (sp?) artery.

I've been referred to a neurological interventionist/neuro radiologist.
I have an appointment this coming tuesday and I'm a wreck.

Have you had an MRI/MRA yet? I had an MRI on my brain because other doctors said I had fibromyalgia. The past two years I've been having severe pains on my right side plus electric shocks, severe fatique and headaches, chest pains.

From what I have been researching, from this message board and other online sites, the next thing the Dr will probably be doing is an angiogram on me, then from there figure out my options.

I'm scared but I'm getting prepared for my appointment. I've been researching the internet and have a notebook full of questions.

Good luck michelle and try to keep your spirits up. I wish you the best.

Re: 8mm Aneurysm

Hi Michelle,

I see you are not in US, so my input may not be exactly on target for your country's laws. Yes, YOU as a patient have the right to know about your options. All of them, including not treating your aneurysm.

I wish you the very best in your journey. God bless, JaneS

Hi Michelle,

I see you are not in US, so my input may not be exactly on target for your country's laws. Yes, YOU as a patient have the right to know about your options. All of them, including not treating your aneurysm. Even if you choose to accept a surgical option, again, you have a say in what they do or what supplemental interventions may be used (like a blood transfusion). I would suggest writing down your most important questions to take with you to ask. Some people bring in pages of questions, but based on appointment time, only get let's say 10 answered but most important one was on their last page.

I, too have a new diagnosis of aneurysm. I'm exploring my options. I want to be here for my daughter and one day, my grands; yet, I am hesitant about surgery. I have learned of the possible complications and a couple of them are difficult for me.

I wish you the very best in your journey. God bless, JaneS
