I have been feeling reduced anger in everyday life lately. I think one thing that has helped is reading the posts on this board. It helps to know I'm not the only one who's flown off the handle for episodes. One thing that has helpedme lately is to develop a sense of humor. I'm really trying to find the comedy in what others do that would otherwise set me off. I believe comedians find much fodder in these situations. I mentioned in another post about a book I got filled with revenge letters to nasty people who deserve them. Things like that help me release some stress. I'm armed with postal power if I ever need to fire off a letter to some culprit. Just knowing I have this power has changed my attitude. Another thing has been working for me is that have begun to develop lower expectations from others. If I approach a situation where I expect errors to be made, I'm not as likely to be upset. After all, I correctly predicted the bungling in the first place. I feel less angry because I called it right. If there's no bungling, I leave satisfied that I was wrong. Also, whenever I go anywhere, I expect to have to wait whether it's in traffic or at the supermarket checkout line. For me to expect rapid and perfect service is a fantasy. Hardly anyone else ever gets it, why should I be different? So I try to play a little game to see if I can accurately guess the amount of time I'll be waiting. If I end up waiting less time than I predicted, I'm happier for it.
I don't want to have a stroke caused by pulsating angry veins bulging out of my temples. If I have to play these games, then so be it. If they help me to live longer, then I'll play them.
