Talking It's about respect & understanding

Respect is something that is very important. Growing up you are supposed to respect your parents. But what if they don't respect you? I think it is the adults responsibility to respect the child so that the child can learn the meaning of respect and why it is so important. If the adult just demands respect but doesn't show any how is the child supposed to understand what respect is? I think their are different kinds of respect. One kind of respect is the kind that every human being as the right to. Every person on earth should respect everyone else just because they are fellow human beings. This means respecting opinions(its ok to disagree though), feelings, and basic rights. The other kind of respect is the kind you give to people who you admire and look up to. Like, I respect my grandpa for being a human being, and I also respect him for being a kind, generous, knowledgable man. I respect teachers and doctors for the work they do. Now what happens when someone is mean and shows no respect towards me? Well I still respect them as a person (unless what theyve done is horrible beyond belief) but the admiration type respect is gone. I tried to explain my thoughts on this topic to my mother. I told her I respect her as a person. She was offended. She thinks she's the greatest, smartest person on earth even though she's really mean. She makes everyone around her miserable. If she does the slightest nice thing, like pour a glass of milk for someone, even though she was already in the kitchen pouring a glass for herself, she expects a million thankyous and to be worshiped as if she were God. Most of the time she wouldnt even do a person a favor like that, she would make them come in and get their own milk. My little brother is 11. I think that people have a responsibility to do things nice for their kids. Pouring a glass of milk is not that difficult but its still a nice thing to do for your kid. Instead, he can be doing his homework and she would be in the kitchen, if he asked for something she would respond something like "Im not your damn slave, who do you think you are? You should be getting my milk" This makes me very angry and I do not think it is ok for her to talk like this to people expecially her child!! What goes through a parents mind to make them think they can talk that way? Children arent born to be your personal servants!!!

uhm...basically that your her son, and in her childhood she went through what you did, and she feels as if its her turn to recieve all the 'credit' and 'respect' and be the 'king' of your houshold(or queen, whichever suite's her) anyway, i can see how it would get annoying, but as many hangups as she has, every mother has her own, believe me, my moms insane also, and a b**** to be around thats why I just...stay in my room, only go to the kitchen to eat, otherwise ill be here, on my computer or sleeping, or outside. Either way, if she treats me like that, than I use her, however cold it sounds, Instead of getting myself depressed and angry I just get money from her to leave, come back later, n to make me food, which im sure your mom doesn't do for you, does she give you 'living' money?

Well your homelife might not be all that great but if your mom is nice enough to give you her money so you can leave then ya it does change things.
