I have had episodes of chest pain since 1973, on average about once a month. They normally occur while I am seated or asleep. I have had several cardiac stress tests in the past including a Nuclear Stress Test in 02/2012 in order to obtain clearance for back surgery; no abnormalities were detected and my cardiologist cleared me for surgery which I haven't had yet. I have high blood pressure which is treated with Losartan.

Whenever I have an episode of chest pain I try to obtain relief by breathing deeply but sometimes the pain lasts for up to an hour. Has anyone been diagnosed with Prinzmetal's Angina and taken Nitroglycerin tablets when having chest pain?

I would wonder if this esophageal pain rather than angina. You have had this for almost 40 years and angina rarely starts at age 31, let alone continuing this long without a heart attack. I would have my GI tract checked out for hiatal lernia, reflux, esophageal spasm. Next time you get the pain, I would try a liquid antacid, and if that helps, it is likely reflux of gastric acid up into the esophagus. What does your Dr think it is from?
