Does Prozac work for anxiety?

Ive been taking prozac now for nearly 2 weeks and so far dont really feel any diffeent. Has anyone taken prozac and how did it help them, and make them feel. I know it does take a few weeks before it kicks in but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Does Prozac work for anxiety?

Neil, ask your doctor about something like Klonopin or xanax. For me xanax is too short lived & leaves me jittery when it wears off. Have been on Klonopin for a week now & it works immediately and for me, no side affects.

Re: Does Prozac work for anxiety?

the prozac will take up to 6 weeks to start working properly, with a small chance it wont woek at all, it will be a big help when it does work

xanax and klonapin are benzos or valium type meds that help in a different way, many docs are against them and wont prescribe any

Re: Does Prozac work for anxiety?

thanks for your replies...

im on my 14th day now of taking it and have started to feel a little bit better, i feel more relaxed and calmer..

The only draw back so far is i feel i can really concentrate on things for long, hopefully this will go when i get used to them.

Any more comments or advice would be appreciated

Re: Does Prozac work for anxiety?

HI Neil

It can take up to 6 weeks but generally speaking it should kick in between 2 - 4 weeks.

From past experience it really works - I had no side effects! Which is great.

Re: Does Prozac work for anxiety?

I am not a doctor but I thought that Prozac was more for just depression and Paxil and Effexor were more for anxiety. I don't think Prozac is approved for anxiety just depression.

Prozac made my anxiety worse.

But then again as I said I am not a doctor.
