could this be nerves?

The past few months have been very stressful for me..but things are a lot better now. I don't consider myself stressed out at the moment.

What is happening is that during the night if I wake up and get out of bed (to get something to drink, to check on my son, or whatever) while I am awake and when I return to bed I feel like I am trembling, almost like my heart is beating at a high rate, vibrating almost. But I check my pulse and it feels normal. Could this be my nerves making me feel this way?
Could I be this stressed out and not even realize it?

I never feel this until I wake up in the middle of the night. Never during the day.

Any advice is appreciated.

Re: could this be nerves?

Samantha,
I sometimes experience these symptoms when I am hungry or haven't eaten for a couple of hours. It's usually accompanied by slight perspiration, as I become a little nervous and jittery. Could you have low blood sugar at this time?

I never thought about it being blood sugar....

I usually eat something sweet before I go to bed. I rarely go to bed hungry. I don't know alot about blood sugar..could eating too many sweets be causing this?

Re: could this be nerves?

Samantha,
You could very well have low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). I have it and I often shake. Try avoiding sweets and caffiene. Eat more protien than carbs and see if you see a difference. A quick test... if you are trembling when you wake up, have something sweet- orange juice, a cookie, whatever. If the shaking stops, it's a good indication of hypoglycemia. Then talk to your doctor. There is a test to see if you have it. It's a bit long, but no big deal.

Also, probably the first thing you should try is cutting out the late night sweets and replacing them with protien at best or nothing at all if you must. Protien is better because it turns to sugar very slowly and therefore, has a lesser affect on your blood sugar. You may not have low blood sugar, but having the sweets before bed may cause you to have boughts of low blood sugar, even though you are otherwise normal.
