It's more about changing your way of thinking than about meditation. Though meditation and relaxation help a lot with anxiety, CBT is more about identifying negative ways of thinking and substituting with more objective thoughts. Check the moodgym site to get a better idea.
I'm no longer on meds thanks to what I've learned through CBT. It's a lot of hard work to learn it, then you have to keep it up all the time but it's worth it.
