Please Help!!! - Anxiety Message Board

HieAll,
I am 30 yrs old and have a 2 yrs old son.I am very confused and worried as I don't know what is going on with me.I have been having these pains in my left side(neck,shoulder and arm....sometimes in jaw)for almost 2 years now.And have undergone several ekgs,2 ultrasounds and a Nuclear stress test...and they were all normal.I had an MRI of my neck as well and this showed slight degenaration of the disc.I don't know what to do now.My doctor says it's Fibromyalgia...Myofascial Pain Syndrome and I don't know if I should be believing them or not.I had my Cholesterol checked in Dec 2003 and my nos are as follows: Total..200 /Ldl..123 /Hdl..34/ Tri..215 My doc said that I need to exercise a lot at least 30 mins of aerobic exercises and to be true I have not been doing it seriously and now that I am going thru hell with pain,I started going to gym since three days and I am going to stick to it and loose weight.I am 174 pounds and my height is 5"3....I know I need to loose weight. I am very very worried about these ongoing pains and everyday before sleeping,I am scared that I might die in my sleep.Life is so difficult at times though I have a wonderful husband and a cute son...still life seems so difficult.hey sorry guys...I didn't mean to depress you.But what could be the reason of these pains....I am all the time thinking it's the heart.Can these pains be related to it and can anyone have such pains related to heart for 2 years.PLease reply soon...I am waiting impatiently... Thank you so much in advance. If It's not the heart what the hell it is??? It gotta be something.I am so so worried and can't sleep at night.

Go to the panic board at these health boards. You are probably suffering from panic/anxiety attacks. Many physical pain & symptoms can be cause by panic. Also, the pain in your jaw & neck etc. can be also caused by TMJ, the joint area in your jaw. Do you notice yourself clenching your teeth when you are stressed? I did for years & ended up with TMJ. Stress, nerves, panic, depression can cause all kinds of symptoms. Read up some on the panic board, it will help you to understand what all others are going thru. Most of us with panic worry that we are having a heart attack too. There are many posts about that too at the panic board.

Hi Monash,
I dont know the cause, but fear of heart problems is very common for anxious people, try to get some reassurance from your doc about your heart, sometimes seeing a heart specialist will reassure a person, some wear a heart monitor for a while

agree re teeth clenching, also ask husband if you grind your teeth when asleep

exercise is good for reducing stress and anxiety, but it must be done in a relaxed way, with no excess tension in the muscles or mind

does valium reduce the pain for a while? valium relaxes the muscles...

You are not alone!!! For the past couple of years anxiety has been creeping up on me as well. I attribute my anxiety to post traumatic stress after being sexually assaulted by a family member. In my head what happened to me in the past was so horrific and devasdating that I think the worst in any and every situation since. Whatever your reason may be you have to find it and conquer it. I know you're scared, embarrassed and worn down from the anxiety. Most of us on this board have been in your shoes! There are times I know you can talk yourself out of this but other times the anxiety is overwhelming. Last month I went to urgent care 3 times in one week after having the EXACT same thoughts you are having now. I can't say I am fully recovered but I am acknowledging that I do have an anxiety problem and am consciously working on helping myself! Perhaps you should tell a doctor you trust about this, instead of your physical symptoms being your main complaint, tell him how your thoughts are and perhaps he can find you a class on cognitive behavioral therapy. Check out the thread named "anxiety and health issues", there are several members there who share their battles with anxiety and have successfully recovered from this problem!
