I am on 37 mgs of Effexor (the long lasting one) and this board has me so nervous about gaining weight on this medication. My doctor said he doesn't hear of it being a big problem. If one has been on other antidepressants and not gained weight isn't that an indication whether you would gain on any of them. I am still on Wellbutrin too and I have been on Lexapro and Prozac---did not gain wweight on any of them. I just started this on Tuesday and already feel better but will definately not continue w/a weight gain. What do you all think??

wellbutrin is also an antidepressant, if you take it at the correct dose it may well help you without any need for effexor

weight gain isnt a big problem with antidepressants, some actually lose weight on them, most stay the same
fear of weight gain is often used as an excuse to not take them, and for not stopping smoking, come to think of it

I know what you mean, I'm 15 and I've never been on medication for a emotion problem before. I go to this sight and I read some seriously scary things! I just lost 15 pounds this summer! I refuse to gain a single ounce back! And as a result I'm considering not taking this medication at all...the possible side effects just don't seem worth it!

I'm a lot older than you girls, but I did not notice any weight gain after changing from Zoloft to Effexor. If anything I have a lot more energy than I used to and feel more inclined to exercise.
