Help please :(

Hi, Im Joel, 20 years of age (almost 21!) and new to the boards. Just recently I was diagnosed with having panic/anxiety disorder. They took my blood, and it was fine. It bothered me at first, but I quickly realised its all a mind thing for the most part. Or so I thought. Im currently not taking any of the meds I was prescribed. Lexapro gave me side effects in the male region. Xanax is fine, but I havent had a need to take it often.

A month or two ago I woke up in the middle of the night with my body feeling like it was pulsing. Like one huge artery. I FREAKED. It lasted for about 5 minutes and went away. It happens very rarely to me now. A couple days later, my head felt like it was vibrating (although you couldnt feel it vibrating, it felt like it) This has been happening to me almost every single day. Its gentle at times, then other times it feels like my heads going to explode (although it doesnt hurt). The episodes last for hours at a time and makes it near impossible for me to sleep. I guess because I focus on it to much. Also, my fingers tingle alot, and sometimes, they move on their own, as if an electric jolt went through it. This only happens for a second though. I see little flashes of light every now and then out of the corner of my eyes. It last for less then a second, and goes away. That may be because Im near sighted, but its never happend to me until now. Im so afraid of going to a doctor to find out what all this is in fear of it beeing MS or some other serious disease or a brain tumor. I guess my question is, do any of you have some of the symptoms? I feel like Im plauged with every illness in the book. Any help, advice etc, would be greatly apreciated.

Re: Help please :(

I know how you feel. See my post here from a couple days ago. I had a very restless night last night. I went to bed around 11 and woke up at 2:25 am (looked at the clock) and couldn't go back to sleep until a little after 5 am. I worked three or four crossword puzzles in the meantime. I feel like hell this morning. My doctor put me on Zoloft Friday and I took my first one Saturday morning and my second one just a little while ago (Sunday morning). I'm hoping it kicks in soon. Hang in there.

Re: Help please :(

Hi joel, it all sounds like stress and anxiety to me, xanax when it happens will help a lot
learn how to relax and get more exercise
try to not pay so much attention to your body, dont tune in or monitor yourself as this always makes your anxiety worse

read up on the fight or flight response on the net
