Is this a normal visit?

Today was my first meeting with psychiatrist. We talked about 10-15 mintues about my background and what it is troubling me.I tried to be honest with him and explained my issues like the places that I have had panic\anxiety attack and my lifestyle. After the session, I showed him what my GP have given and he basically told me to come back to see him in two weeks.

Is this normal or do I need to find someone else?

Thanks

Re: Is this a normal visit?

Hi there,

I've had 2 first meetings with psychiatrists and both times it lasted at least an hour and a half. I also had to fill in questionnaires to take to the appointments. At the end of the session the psychiatrist told me what he thought the problem was and suggested a choice of therapy or medication.
Maybe he was happy with what your GP had given you or maybe the next meeting will be more thorough.
I'm sorry I can't be more help but that's my experience.
Make sure you ask him all the questions you need to until you are happy with everything.

Take care

Lisa-jane

Re: Is this a normal visit?

do you mean that the psych was satisfied with the meds your GP had given you

a visit to a psych can last anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour and they often treat anxiety and panic attacks differently

some think panic attacks arent important

with all therapists, they can be helpful but the info you need to get better is available in books and tapes and usually mush cheaper
