Xanax

Anyone taking Xanax?? I started seeing a therapist on Tuesday last week. She called my doctor and my doctor called in Xanax and another script for depression. Just wondering if it is working for anyone out there and if so how long they have been taking it. I know nothing about it.. I am scared it might be addicting... I have had a rough time adjusting to it. Clumsiness and dizziness. I am also only 26 and looking at starting a family in the not so distant near future. Do you have to go off of it to become pregnant??? I am such the worrier, I just hope there is someone else out there who might be able to share their experiences.

Thanks!

Re: Xanax

I took Xanax at one time, but I know longer have panic attacks so I don't take it anymore.
How much are you taking?...I ask this because when I was taking it..even from the very first pill I never felt clumsy or dizzy...but medication works differently for everyone so for you it may take a while to adjust to it and your dose may be higher than mine was.
I took it for a very long time for panic and anxiety...but I took a very low dose.
Some people can become dependent on or tolorant to it, while others have no problems at all with it.
I never had a problem with it, but my Doctor told me from the very start about the dependence and tolorance issues that some people have with this medication...he told me that just because the bottle said I could take X amount a day didn't mean that I had to take that much, he told me to take less if I could...which I did...but to never ever for any reason take more...and I never did.
I had weaned off of it before I had my Children so I didn't have to worry but yes it is one of the medications that you shouldn't take while pregnant.
I know there are others who post on here who've said that they did continue taking their medications while pregnant but those were the SSRI medications...Xanax is a benzo.
Hope this is of some help to you.

Re: Xanax

I am just learning in this whole process... I am on an SSRI too... I am taking .25mg of Xanax (a generic version I think) and I am also taking Lexapro 10mg. The Xanax is taken twice a day as needed and the Lexapro just once a day. The therapist told my doctor what she thought he should prescribe and he just called in two prescriptions. I have a follow up with him next week. I remember the first morning I took the meds I blew dry my hair and wanted to roll over and go back to sleep. I had a hard time staying awake. Maybe the Lexapro is making me dizzy.

Re: Xanax

It could be the Xanax that's making you tired and dizzy.
It never did that to me, but like I said everyone is different....my dose was the same as yours...1/4 MG. twice a day...I also took the generic version.

I tired to different SSRI's, I couldn't take them...Lexapro wasn't one of them though.
I'm not sure if what you're feeling might be coming from the Lexapro or not, maybe someone that's taken it can answer that for you.

Re: Xanax

Took Xanax briefly but found it delayed/retarded my responses when driving so switched to other benzos like ativan or oxazopam and had no problems. SSRI's can definately cause the sleepiness, don't know the one you're on, but many people find Prozac more stimulating than sedating. Consult your pharmasist or CPS or talk to your Doc about this. It is my understanding that most side effects of SSRI's wear off in several weeks, so you adjust to them, but this is very individual, and often its try one and see, try another, and another, till you find one that fits for your chemistry, and GP's don't usuallly know, so you have to be pro-active, and be your own advocate and GP so to speak.
