i have not felt the same in ages - Anxiety Message Board

hi i am new to this and i have a few things i would like to have a little bit of help with. i have had depression and axiety for over 2 and a half years. i went on medication from paxil to prozac and that didnt help. my symptoms include crying, nervousness, fatigue, anxiety attacks, irritabiliy, weird thoughts, headaches, and this weird " i feel like im in a dream feeling " i hate being like this and recently have tried to get help again. is there something really wrong with me? y do i feel this way? y is it taking so long to go away? should i try different medication and seek therapy and is there light at the end of what seems to be a long long long tunnel? please help and any advice would be very helpful. thank shannon

These are the exact same sensations (for lack of better word) that I would have when my anxiety flares up. It sounds like you are already seeing a doctor, which is good. Have you taken Paxil or other anti-anxiety meds for more than a month straight? It does take several weeks for these meds to start working. Unfortunately, I think many people stop taking these meds too soon out of fraustation. This may not be your case but I thought I would throw that out there.

Keep trying to find what works for you. It took me two years to find a solution for myself, but when I did it really turned my life around.

spitfire, the emotions you describe are exactly what I have experienced for over 1 1/2 years {with a ffew breaks}. I so miss the happy person I once was.

I think that anxious2 makes an excellent point, and obviously speaks from experience; it's SO hard to hang in there with these drugs. the initial side effects can be rough, and when one {or more} drug fails you, it's so hard to pick yourself up and start over. I {and this of course may not be the case with you} may have only myself to blame for suffering this long by failing to stick out several drug trials.

spitfire, you are certainly not alone in fighting this battle, and, as anxious2 points out, it is one we can win!

I started paxil today!
