I need a Pep Talk Following my Anxiety Attack

On Monday I had an anxiety attack in front of my class while giving a presentation..I began to shake uncontrollably and had to end up handing the presentation over to the person in my group because I couldn't complete it..today is Wed. and I have to go back to that same class..I know I'm supposed to face my fear but I am so ashamed to face that same class..should I take a day off from the class so I don't have to deal with having another anxiety attack over the anxiety of going or should I just suck it up and go..please help..

Just go, you will be fine. Don't think about what happened last time. This is a new day. Good luck!!

You know what, I bet some of the students have experienced this too!
I always try to walk through the fear too but sometimes you just can't control it.
I had a enormous one at a Mall last week in front of not only my kids and husband but the entire Mall. I hate when my kids see this and even that can't stop the attack.
Be kind to yourself... Go and if you feel it coming on ask to excuse yourself.
That is what I would do.

Re: I need a Pep Talk Following my Anxiety Attack

Hi fawnieb,

I'm in school and I've run out of classes, I've had the whole class staring at me, I've run out of a hall of 200 students etc etc and to be honest - they don't care half as much as you do. When I had my first panic attack in school I got so nervous when I had to go back to that class but no one even noticed or thought twice about it, you know? I know that at this moment you're probably feeling like that's not true, but I've been there!!

I would say go to that class and face your fear because the longer you leave it, the more afraid you become and the longer it festers in your mind. And if it was me and someone did ask, I'd probably just say "oh I wasn't feeling too well" and that would be the end of it!

Remember, there is no reason whatsoever to be ashamed of anxiety!
