This is just my own personal theory from my own experience...I have seen a couple psychologists and read several self-help books. They did make me feel better for a short amount of time, but after a couple of days I was back to the same thing. Therapy kind of helps you to understand what you are feleing and that it is normal, and for me that helps a lot, but the techniques were not powerful enough for me to do on my own in the grips of an anxiety attack. The only way therapy would have been helpful for me is if I had someone there with me constantly to enforce the teachings until it became habit. Unfortunately 1 or 2 hours a week doesn't cut it...I believe in order for therapetic techniques to help, you have to use it constantly, and most people don't have the time energy or willpower to do that.
I have come to accept that I will always have anxiety, but I know it will fluctuate, I will have good times and bad times. All you can do is make the best of what you have. Take good care of yourself physically and mentally, read the self help books and see therapists if it helps, and take medicines if they help you live your life in a happy way, but accepting that anxiety will probably never go away completely is important too, then you aren't always wasting your time and money on trying to find a cure. Instead find what works best for you and stick with it.
