Prozac/Xanax& Adding Wellbutrin XL - Anxiety Message Board

OK so I have been on 12mg of Prozac (pretty low) and 1 MG of Xanax XR every morning for the last six months. MY doc. just prescribed 150MG of Wellbutrin XR to counteract the low libido going on with the Prozac. Can't believe I will be taking 3 meds. Has anyone had experience with this trio together? I began taking Prozac and Xanax for anxiety and am a little worried about the effects of Wellbutrin and the way it revs people up. My doc. said that the Prozac and Xanax will counter that side effect and just let it (the Wellbutrin) affect the dopamine and norepinephrine in addition to the seratonin. Supposedly, Wellbutrin is completely unrelated to the SSRIs and therefore will affect different parts of the brain related to pleasure, activities and libido. Any experiences out there with all this? I'm a 33 yr old female.

I just started taking Wellbutrin a little over 2 weeks ago. While my sexual side effects from the SSRI I stopped (Celexa) are gone, the anxiety and agitation has returned. I have been told to be patient, that these may abate with time. But so far, I've had to double my Klonopin just to cope. Talk to your specialist about this in great detail. In the last week or so, I've heard of several folks who are taking Wellbutrin with their SSRI.

wellbutrin is being heavily advertised to docs an an antidepressant with low sexual problem side effects, either on its own, or added to another antidepressant to cure sexual problems
I am very doubtful as wellbutrin has a higher risk of causing a siezure, which may be confused with a panic attack, which many anxiety sufferers do have

I am also very doubtful of taking 2 antidepressants together and think it mainly a method to increase drug companies profits
if an antidepressant isnt working well, the first step should be for doc to up its dose, IMO

Prozac and Wellbutrin for anxiety? I have serious concerns about your doctor. Both Prozac and, especially, Wellbutrin can increase your anxiety.

I too would be concerned. Wellbutrin can be known to increase your anxiety and cause insomnia. I would up the dose of prozac to 20mg, and start to taper off the xanax IMO.
