Can anxiety really cause night sweats? I'm having a hard time believing that anxiety alone could be causing me to wake up in the middle of the night slightly sweating all over my entire body. It started when I went off the birth control pill, and I and my doctors believed it could be withdrawal from the hormones. However, now I have been back on the pill for 3 months, and for the past month have been getting night sweats EVERY night! I am not on any other medication. I have been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder - but why this new symptom? I am so worried it is something serious. I have had many tests by several specialists over the past 6 months (i.e. hiv, cbc, thyroid, glucose, insulin etc.) and the doctors keep telling me I'm healthy. I will accept that I have anxiety and then work to overcome it, but first, I need to BELIEVE it is anxiety rather than some horrible disease. I keep thinking the doctors are missing something, or maybe something has changed since I had blood work done back in April. If anyone can lend some insight, I'd really appreciate it. Should I call my primary care doctor and ask him to check me out (AGAIN)?? I'm learning that anxiety is perhaps one of the worst "diseases" of all!
I don't know how old you are, but I'm perimenopausal and I get night sweats sometimes. I think I get them from hormonal ups and downs. I know you can also get them from changing medications or stopping medications. Are you taking any other medication besides the birth control? You can probably get them from stress too, but I bet it's hormonal. Do you keep your room nice and cool at night? That helps. Try not to worry. Try asking the ladies on the women's health board...maybe they have some ideas.
I am too young for menopause, and have been tested for pre-mature menopause just to be sure. Besides, I'm back on the pill, so I would think my estrogen and progesterone would be back in balance now. Maybe my body is still readjusting to getting synthetic hormones again (without them, my estrogen and progesterone are very low-probably because I am underweight). Of course, the more I analyze and try to think about it, when bedtime comes, I think, "am I going to get the night sweats again tonight?'' That probably makes it worse! Last night was terrible - I resorted to taking a xanax so I could get back to sleep. I do notice that when I awaken with night sweats, I had been having a stressful dream (i.e. running from something, being late and rushing to get there, etc.). It just gets so confusing. Thank you for responding though. It helps to talk about it with people who can relate to being worried.
i read up on Aids Symptoms and night sweats is one of them. Also feeling tired and having fatigue come outta no where. Its got me worried b/c of that tired part but i dont think i have aids... nor you.
I have AWFUL night sweats Absolutly horrible, as you say from everywhere, i have to dry myself with a towel, it was so bad that i thought i was premenopausal!!! It has been better over the last couple of days so i know it is through anxiety, plus i always jump awake in my sleep, i actually think its when i sleep i suffer worse!! I am sure we are not alone with the sweating, or being smelly in the morning
When I had really bad anxiety I had night sweats all night long every night. I had to start wearing thermal underwear for my PJ's because thermals were designed to absorb your sweat off your skin like a sponge more effectively. My suggestion is to keep a towel under you and have thin layers of blankets instead of using comforters and put on some thermal underwear.
