Decided against Paxil and the psychiatrist

I will try another after the new year. My therapist asked me if I got a good feeling about her and the more I thought about it, the less "good" I felt about my visit. I know 12.5 mg is a low dose but I told her I was apprehensive about going on Paxil and that seemed to put her nose out of joint. I guess she felt a little defensive. Well, it's my body and if I don't feel comfortable with her choice, then that's her problem. The more I thought about the appt, the more I wanted a second opinion. I'm ok with going on meds at this point but I want something that I'm not afraid to go on. My anxiety isn't incapacitating so another few wks won't kill me. Thanks for your responses before...

I think the second opinion is an excellent idea. She has no right to get her nose bent over a medication that you don't feel comfortable with. That would give me a bad feeling also! Good luck!

Unhappy Re: Decided against Paxil and the psychiatrist

Just want to let you know that Paxil CR is what I have been taking for 2 years and it has worked wonders for me. The only side effect was slight diarrhea for a few days but after that my worrying subsided. I know not everyone is for taking meds and that is ok. But just wanted you to know that Paxil CR 12.5 mg is something worth taking if you are considering pills. Good luck with everything...anxiety sucks!!

Thanks for your responses

It's not necessarily the Paxil that I had a problem with. It was the Dr. Paxil gets me a little nervous, although I know it helps some people immensely. It's just that I didn't want to get on a med that would be hard to get off of if I had a Dr. I didn't like. I'm planning on meds for a little while. I just want a Dr. who will listen to my concerns. She just rubbed me the wrong way.

Thanks again.

Re: Decided against Paxil and the psychiatrist

It's important to get a doctor you like. I quit one recently because she was adamant about me getting these written tests and I said, "those tests aren't very helpful in getting to the bottom of problems" and they label people and you know, anxiety sometimes is just anxiety and I don't feel like paying for more "tests" that I don't feel are going to be effective. I actually walked out on her because she just thought these "tests" like the MMPI are the end all, be all of a patient's problems. Been there, done there, won't waste my time again on stuff like that. I'm not crazy, I'm not schizo, or manic, or anything like that and she didn't respect my opinion. Oh well. I moved on.

Also, I didn't like Paxil as you probably read. Have you tried the program by Lucinda bassett?

{REMOVED} it has helped me understand I'm not alone, hearing others stories has been very helpful, and realizing that it's my own negative thinking that has gotten me here, is eye-opening. There's a money-back guarantee, ain't cheap, but I managed to do time-payments. It's helped hundreds of thousands already. She has been through what we have been through, she knows how scary it is. And she and many thousand others have come out of this anxiety. It can work. I'm believing.
