dear poster:not that I agree with it but....the method of operation with most docs goes like this. They are more than willing to prescribe an SSRI like Paxil-Lexapro-etc. and then they will "allow" a script for a benzo to take with it-AS NEEDED. Ativan is in the Valium family-so is Klonopin and Xanax. Ativan has been a lifesaver for me~and it definitely helps with anxiety/panic and social shyness. There is a med called Buspar that is touted as non-addictive(for anxiety). I was given a script for it~but never took it because most people that post here say it causes dizziness
But everyone is different so maybe it would work for you? Or you could let the doc prescribe an AD and tell him you need Ativan to go with it?
