Prozac Dosage - Anxiety Message Board

What's the usual starting dose for Prozac when used to treat anxiety? How about Xanax? Thanks. My doctor is no help!

When I took prozac, I was prescibed 20mg daily intially which was then increased to 40mg after 8 weeks.
It was quite a number of years ago though when I took them.
I think it depends on the severity of your anxiety.
Could you possibly seek the advice from a pharmacist? they tend to have more idea about dosages than some doctors (speaking from personal experiance only).

My doctor gave me .5 mg. pills of Xanax, taken every 4 hrs. as needed. I can break them in half and take a lower dose that doesn't make me as sleepy. A few years ago, a doctor gave me 2 mg. bars that could be broken into four pieces (.5 mg. each). I think that doctor did that to save me money.

I read the usual starting dose of Xanax is .25 to .5 mg., three times a day for anxiety.
