Buspar side effects? - Anxiety Message Board

Hi Everyone--

I started taking Buspar almost 10 days ago for tooth grinding. I think it's starting to work since my jaw isn't nearly hurting as much as usual the last few days. I'm also not waking up with night panics any more (yay!!) which were getting pretty bad. Other than that, I feel pretty much the same which is fine with me since I wasn't having super bad anxiety. Just some shortness of breath and tenseness which I could usually manage.

The only problem is that every single morning I've taken this, I end up really dizzy and nauseous about an hour later. This lasts for at least an hour and makes it kind of hard to get work done. I also get a little panicky when that happens and then as soon as the dizziness fades I'm fine.

Does anyone have experience with these kinds of side effects? How long did they last? I don't know if I'd stay on it if they don't go away eventually. It doesn't last all day, but it's not so much fun to feel that way even for a little while every day.

Hi Ruby,
I take buspar to. It does go away after awhile. I have just had mine uped to 45mg and that still makes me dizzy and I hope it will go away after awhile.

Thanks for your reply dragonballwizard. So with you, did it go away and then come back when you increased the dose? I'm only on 10 now and was going to move up to 15 as soon as the dizziness calms down.

I take 15 mg of Buspar per day - 1/2 pill twice per day. Although sometimes I take 10 mg. I have found that if I take it on an empty stomach and drink a full glass of water, I don't get the dizziness or nausea. So I take it first thing when I get up in the morning and if I don't eat for an hour I don't have any problem. Then I take it right when I get home from work because it's usually an hour before I eat. That seems to have solved the problem for me.

Wow. Thanks! I just assumed it would be better with food like a lot of over-the-counters. It never occurred to me to try on an empty stomach. I'll try that.
