Multiple S or anxiety?

Hi, My name is Sarah and im a 20 year old student. About 3 mths ago, i was watching the television one night and felt a pressure in my head i dismissed it as being tired but when i stood up i felt dizzy and very weak my face, arms and legs were very numb and i felt sick. I slept very unwell that night. When i woke up the next day i made a doctors appointment but i felt ok, suddenly just before i went i got that weak dizzy unwell sensation again..i went to the doctor who did a physical examination and could find nothing wrong. Later that night i felt so bad i had to be admitted to the emergency room who took blood tests and again said nothing was wrong. To cut a long story short i was admitted a week later for feeling so bad again ..this time i stayed for a week, I had many ecg's done, blood tests and gland tests and nothing showed up. I was sent home and told there was nothing wrong with me. 2 mths on i am on antidepressants presumed i am suffeing from an anxiety disorder and trying to cope. My symptions are dizziness, weakness, pressure in my head, muscle spasms especially at night and difficulty concentrating. Could this be MS?

Re: Multiple S or anxiety?

Hi,
I may sound like a broken record to some who keep seeing me post here, but I started having my problems with anxiety when I was 40, over 14yrs. ago now. All the symptoms you are having I have had. I remember I spent the first 6 months having every test I could possibly have. They found quite a lot of interesting things that was wrong with me, that I didn't know about, but none were life threatening and I didn't have to do anything for them, just odd quirks they were. No one here can really diagnose whether you have MS, but if you keep having tests and nothing sounds an alarm, it is probably anxiety. {REMOVED} Maybe you have been studying too hard and that is why you are dizzy at night. When I ran out of tests that could be done I finally accepted that I had GAD.

Let us know how you are doing and what you find out....

Re: Multiple S or anxiety?

Hey Sarah,

When I was 18 and starting college, I got this tingling sensation in my head and kinda just let it go. Then I started to wonder if it could be something (like a tumor). Here it goes. I started going to the doctors non-stop. I went to the neurologist and everything came back fine. That wasn't good enough for me. I continue going back to the doctor because I started getting other symptoms (similar to yours), dizziness, lighthead, nauseated, feeling like I'm about to pass out. What helped me was when I went to the doctor again (probably 10 times now), he finally ordered me an MRI and when that came back fine, my worries subsided and I felt better.

If you're worried about MS, some tests should be done so you can rest assure that you don't have it. Once the results come back fine, then you'll feel much better. Hope this helps.

Re: Multiple S or anxiety?

Sarah,

im also young i am 23 and had all those symptoms and more....everyone tried telling me i had anxiety and depression but turns out i do have a physical issue i still dont know whats casuing it....i had brain mris eeg bloodwork heart tests just about everything nothing came up until i finally proved myheart was going crazy everytime i moved basically when i change positions my heart races like crazy ....i always feel lightheaded even when its not racing and dizzy i get slight numbness as well in fact thats how it started for me with presssure in my head as well i also have bp fluctutations very low most of the time then somewhat high anyway i finally had an autonomic nervous system test and i tested positive for postural tachardia syndrome and theres like ten million things that can cause it i dont know ahy i have it ,,or worse if it is simple to fix and im suffering for nothing ive been like this for 6 months straight...are u still able to do things? can you work and do your normal activies? the reason i ask this is becasue all my doctors tried saying i had anxiety at ist but i knew i was physically ill you can usually tell if theres somthing really wrong with you physically...if you think it could be anxiety it probably is if you are convinced without a doubt its physical keep seeing dioffernt doctors and specialist....by the way i had gone to the ER like 6 times before they took me seriously and i passed all the blood work to and heart tests

Re: Multiple S or anxiety?

Dizziness, weakness, muscle twitching, and headache are all symptoms of anxiety. You most likely are having panic attacks, which can cause all of the above symptoms. Before I learned about anxiety disorder, I suffered from several panic attacks a day with symptoms like yours. At points I was SURE I had some fatal problem - cancer, MS, ALS, Meningitis, etc. I'm still very alive and quite healthy.

Please talk to your doctor about the possibility of anxiety/panic disorder.

Re: Multiple S or anxiety?

i was in the same boat as nikigrl8883... everyone told me it was just anxiety for years... (not that they were totally wrong i was suffering from panic attacks but once a DR knows you suffer from panic attacks everything gets blamed on it) turns out no one took me serious until i lost sight in my left eye and they stuck me in a MRI and found out i did in fact have MS...

so i guess in short if you are worried about having MS push for an MRI.. its not the end of the world if you do have it (chances are you dont) the Neuro that DXed me with MS said from the looks of my MRI films i have had it for years and no one caught it.. ( probably because they were to busy telling me it was only anxiety) i am not telling you this to scare you i am telling you this so you can get the right test for it and get some peace of mind..

Re: Multiple S or anxiety?

hey sarah sorry to hear of your troubles Ihave also suffered from very similiar symptoms! IHAVE HAD A BRAIN MRI AND A CT both came back normal about a year ago i was diagnosed with uncompensated labyrinyhitis a vestibular disorder. although many of my symptoms do not fit and came earlier. my doctors say i have also developed GAD! I dont know how concrete an mri is but it is the best they have to detect the lesions typical of MS so that is what i would push for! i would also say that anxiety is a powerful animal and could equally be responsible for your problems. HOPE YOU FEEL TONS BETTER SOON! jOHN
