I am wondering I know a lot of us mention that we all experience rapid heart rates. I have been reading every one's post and I am wondering if this is normal for someone with anxiety to be experiencing. As some of you know that have read my post my disease called anxiety I suffer from anxiety as well as panic disorder. My question is my heart rate, I know our heart rates are all different but mine seems to be a bit high and fluctuates a lot throughout different positions. I could wake up in the morning and before getting out of bed they say to check your pulse to see if your heart is functioning properly, and my heart rate is in the 60's which is perfect! But then I get up and I start to feel the rapid rate as I start moving around, I could have a resting heart rate watching TV of high 70's or 80's and then I get up and move around and it jumps to over 100 more like 116-120 If I am really anxious that day It can hit 137 just walking around anxious and the feeling as if I am hyperventilating!! I am in constant PANIC ATTACK mode!
The weird thing is I could be at 120 standing and then I just lie down and it goes down to 90's all within seconds.. Is this normal?? That's what I want to know? If I take a xanax which calms me down my heart rate will be in the high 90's to low 100's when standing.. I swear this is why I am dizzy with vertigo all the time! Are there any others on this board that have this problem and feel dizzy all the time as well?? And if so what does your dizziness feel like, and how high does your heart rate run? I am reading so many post over concerns of heart rates in the 90's I am wondering to myself should I be worried here?? Any thoughts, advice would be greatly appreciated!! Boxerlover
what you described is seriously exactly what i have not to scare you...but same thing happens to me laying down my heart will be say 70 i stand up it goes crazy to like 100 i sit back down and it instantly goes down again...and that not normal from what im told you should have an autonomic tilt table test for this thats how i got diagnosed ...at ist all the doctors said i had anxiety and depression and that was causing the rapid rates but when they saw how it happens changing positions they thought twice and ordered the tilt test and that my friend is how i know i have pots syndrome... i am tired alot yes i sleep long hours at a time and still feel crappy all day and yes if your heart is doing that then it most defentaly is whats making you feel like faiting what test have you had done exactly im curious
I swear I think that is what I have too. I really mean it! I have ALL the signs. I don't want to have that tilt table test after hearing how horrible it was. Besides I am scared to death! I haven't had any cardio test in quiet awhile, included ultra sound of the heart, holter monitors, ekg... everything was normal except "normal rapid heart rates" But that was a while ago, so now I wonder... Now I think I better make a Doctor's appointment because something isn't right! Thanks niki
My grandson was diagnosed with POTS after having bronchitis. He finally went to Mayo Clinic and after receiving the right medicine and a pacemaker he is now going through physical therapy and although it is a slow process, they feel that he will get much better. They said that he was one of the worst cases they have ever seen there. From what I am learning this is definitely made worse by stress and anxiety. This is something you can beat and if you are not getting the help you need from your medical doctors than please go to Mayo or a specialty place that deals strictly with this disease. May God bless you and help you grow through this tough time
ya boxer i had all those tests too and all i had was rapid heart rate but normal pattern as well you better get that test seriously either way most people dont get a pacemaker with pots unless its horrible i think so basically theres a few meds such as beta blockers and a certain cortisol depending on all you r symtoms and if they rule out a brain tumor and heart problem your left with pots syndrome drink alot and eat salt beta blockers do help the fast heart rate and you dont need much... i really hope i dont have to get a pace maker!
Hi there, I have been experiencing similar symptoms myself over the last couple weeks, and when I went to the doctor complaining of dizziness they mentioned that I might be dehydrated. It turned out not to be the case with me (then again, a rapid heartbead wasn't my main issue), but the doctor did say that when you are mild or moderately dehydrated, one sign is a heart beat that changes rapidly from laying, sitting, to standing, and the numbers you mentioned would surely be as sign of this. Dehydration can also most definitly be a cause of dizziness, so I'd make sure you're drinking at least two liters of water a day and ask your doctor what they think. Anxiety defintily exacerbates these symptoms but your answer might be something as simple (but definitly still dangerous if not fixed!) as dehydration.
Okay now I am scared!! Pacemaker?
So I guess so far no one else here thinks this could be anxiety related!!!
Nikigrl I always said our symptoms "were" and "are" so much alike... I guess that is why I understood you so well. I really think I have something wrong like POTS! Okay but your hormonal problems justify this condition. What would make me have this is my concern? I could drink more water during the day, but I do drink a lot of juice, so I really don't think I am dehydrated but you never know.. My next question I guess is NOW WHAT???
I don't think I live anywhere near the mayo clinic, do I go to my regular GP or a cardiologist?? I feel the panic mode coming on!!!
boxer dont worry you made it this far,,and im only guessing that its my pituitary gland and even if it is all my mri showed was it was slightly enlarged but no visible sign of a tumor was seen but i do have a prolactinand ive never been pregnant and that doesnt make sense as you know so i think my hormones in my gland are being prohibited from being sent out right due to the enlargement but i dont know what to do about it there not gonna do surgery thats for sure ...with you i have no idea what it is i know you can rule out heart disease have your hormones tested were you sick before you got your so called maybe pots ? i mean did you have a virus or infection? that is the casue 50% of the time...in which case you have the highest chance of recovery but it takes yrs sometimes otherwise you have to find the underlying cause i know sighhhh i feel the same... i dont know really whats casuing it in me im just guessing its my hormones being off somehow... ughhhhh
um first you need to get diagnosed with an autonomic problem before you make other appt... i would go to a neurolgist and mention your concerns about POTS becasue of your symptoms then once they diagnose you only with a tilt test by te way (sorry) then you go to a specialist in autonomic problems where are you from
I was just reading on POTS and I have every single symptom!!! Even the pressure behind the eyes that my doctor said was tension headaches.. I am just wondering does the rapid heart rate changes happen all the time for you?? I am really scared about the tilt table test.. I don't know if I can do it!
Now I am wondering if all these years that I have felt like this, and had vertigo and rapid heart rates, if this was the problem all along and the Dr's just said it was anxiety! They mentioned it is common after child birth, well after I had the baby almost two years ago, all these symptoms got worse! I just checked my pulse standing and it was 116 then I went and lied down and it was 91 I know I am going to obsess about this now until I know for sure because I am truly thinking this is the problem.. I really am starting to get scared about the whole pacemaker situation.. I hope and pray niki that you don't have to have this either. I am going to call my Dr. ASAP and make an appointment re-guarding this situation.. I know I will get the eye rolls as if I am being neurotic again, but this seems to be not right what is happening to me.. Ahhh I wonder why the xanax would help in this situation?? I guess because it slow the Heart Rate down? I know I won't be sleeping tonight, my anxious mind is taking over.
Well, I am now 100% convinced this is what I have. I have been describing these very symptoms to my Dr.'s for the last 2 months, and they just scratch their heads. I have all those symptoms, and for the last 2 years I could only stand up for maybe a half hour, at the very maximum, before needing to sit down. I have not been able to stand up without major heart rate increase, major pac's and pvcs, heat sensitivity, waking up with numb arms and legs, all of it. However, my Dr. wants to rule out stress, so tonight I start the Zoloft, which I'm scared of. She said in two weeks I need to go back, and if the heart is still doing it, then she will give me a beta blocker to try to keep the heart rate lower. I am sick of this! Anyways, you think the only way to test is thru a tilt table? I wonder why they can't just hook all that stuff up to you and then have you stand up? They can see it that way too. And how do you decide if it's anxiety or pots? The tests themselves cause mass anxiety for me. Michelle
The only virus I had was Lyme disease when all my symptoms started back in 1997!! I don't know if that is considered a cause?? My heart test were a few years ago so who knows what I could have now! I had a lot of test when I was pregnant but I gave birth over a year ago.. So who really knows.. All I know is the more I read the more I am convinced because I have every symptom.. I am a wreck right now.. I am wondering if I do really have this and if so how far progressed is it being that I have been feeling this way for a long time now.. I guess the worse has been the past few months.. I really appreciate all your support!!
