Re: Xanax not really working?

I have seen you on several posts.........is Xanax all you are taking? Are you having GAD or panic..........I would suggest that if it is affecting you daily and the xanax is not covering it you need to try and AD.......you may find on on your first try or it may take a few trys..........but once you find one that works you may not need xanax atall.

HUGS!

Re: Xanax not really working?

Remember, I am not at a doctor, but just speaking from my personal experiences and talks with my doctor.

.25mg is a very low dose. It's actually the lowest dose available.

According to studies done the dose that was most effective for panic disorder in clinical trials was 5.6mg per day. Most people don't get that high and are actually undermedicated because of the stigma attached to the medicine.

No, not everyone needs a dose that high...Some people do fine on the dose that you are on, but the point is, everyone is different and requires different dosing.

You definitely could talk to your doctor about raising the dose. It wasn't until I got to the 1.5-2mg dose that I really started to see a therapeutic effect for my anxiety.

Ativan is 1/2 as weak as Xanax whereas Klonopin is 2x as strong.

Basically:

.5mg of Xanax=1mg Ativan
.5mg of Xanax=.25mg Klonopin
1mg Ativan=.25mg Klonopin

Re: Xanax not really working?

Prozac will eventually probably work, either that or your doc will change your med and you'll eventually find one that will work. I'd call and ask about upping the Xanax. Xanax is usually very effective, but your dosage is really small, especially considering the fact that you seem pretty anxious.

Re: Xanax not really working?

I am not a DR but IMO if it is helping you are fine!! I took Xanax years ago......25 once a day with paxil........when it quite I ran the gamut of meds and ended up on some SSRI with Klonopin........05 3 x daily and been there for more than 10 years........I was on the xanax for 3 years and never needed to increase it..........so if it works......go with it!

Re: Xanax not really working?

Thank you! I am just so afraid of OD ya know? LOL I guess my doc knows whats best, but he had prescribed me only 1 mg per day but it wasnt helping so I have added a little here and there and now upto 2 mg a day and now I feel like my panic is under control. I am also supposed to be taking Ambien for sleep but havent again for the fear of mixing meds, even if they say its ok, has anyone ever took those combos at the same time?
Wellbutrin 300
Xanax 1-2mg daily
Ambien CR
