GAD: Getting through until the meds kick in

I have been diagnosed with GAD and was hoping there might be some good tangible advice on how to muddle through the next few weeks until the SSRI really begins to work. I'm taking Xanax for sleep but really don't want to use it much during the day. Thanks
I am taking Zoloft, been on it for ~ 1 wk.

You will certainly get great information here and you will deifinetly have the support! What medication are you taking and how long have you been on?

Re: GAD: Getting through until the meds kick in

It is hard waiting for the medication to become effective! I'm just coming out the other side after being on for 12 weeks. I'm no where near at my best, but I do feel better as the weeks go by. I've been through this before so I have that to look forward to, knowing there is a time when I will be better again. You didn't say what type of side effects you were having yet with your med, perhaps none other that just the anxiety you started with. It can take 6 weeks or more sometimes for your med to work.

I think just coming in here and reading the boards and asking specific questions when you feel the need will help you get through the first few weeks. It's wonderful to have company that understands while you wait for the good times to come back again.
