scary sleep thing happened.. im worried - Anxiety Message Board

while i was trying to sleep , all the sudden before i was trying to sleep i felt like this smothering sensations, and then i felt like i couldnt breathe, i thought i was dying.. and then i tried to scream and managed to sayy help.. it was feeling i never felt before.. it was really weird and scary , almost like if i was being suffocated.. i dont think it was panic.. what is this?? thank you

ohhh,, i'm so sorry you had a bad night... i get that feeling all the time.. especially lately. and it is exactly how yu say, like someone just stuck something over my mouth, cant breathe in. and when i finally do its like a huge gasp, myheart pounding, and i jump out of bed and start screaming... i myslef doubt if these feelings are panic, but i know that when i take my paxil i dont get that.. well, i tried to come off paxil again this last month, so, i guess, thats a mistake.. do you have two different kinds of panic??? i do. and last night wasnt my breathing thing. i kept having those hot flushing feelings and like i was gonna pass out all night. nothing seemed real, etc.. now i feel horrible this morning. im so sorry you felt like that, but be assured, i do get that exact same thing.. and have been for years.. amanda

Sounds like you may be describing sleep paralysis which is very common. In the "sleep disorder" forum you should be able to find something on it, or google it.

these sound like panic attacks to me cos I have suffered them loads of times in my sleep. My doc has told me that panic attacks can happen anytime and even in your sleep

This might be related to sleep apnea?
