Drinking with anxiety

How many people can't drink because of anxiety? From reading these boards it seems like a ton of people get anxiety/panic attacks after or during drinking. I used to drink a lot but completely stopped once I had a panic attacks. I'm afraid to try again because I don't want an attack.

Can a lot of people still drink or is it common knowledge that you'll have an attack or feel the symptoms if you do?

Re: Drinking with anxiety

If you are on an anti deprsnt. then it is not wise to drink.

Drinking for caused anxiety the next day and it just isn't worth it for me.

I have tried the glass of wine at night and it still brought on bad feelings.

I currently do not drink.

Re: Drinking with anxiety

I don't drink because it gives me anxiety. Alcohol also hurts my stomach which triggers my anxiety too.

Re: Drinking with anxiety

I have GAD. I occassionaly drink a glass of wine. I helps me to relax..it does not bring on more anxiety..but everyone body is different. I am also taking Clonozapam as needed.. 1/2 pill. If I take the meds...I do not drink at all that particular day. I find that the Clonozapam works better than a glass of wine....the meds last a little longer.

Re: Drinking with anxiety

Drinking cause's an altered state , so do drugs.
same sorta thing because you lose control.
i pushed myself in the deep end to get drunk in 10 mins.. and faught it off.
anxiety cant hurt you...focus on that and when you drink make sure you focus on having a good time and not on yourself. you can gain control

Re: Drinking with anxiety

i think its ok if your not on medication to have a drink. i think what brings on panic attacks is really heavy drinking so you should be fine if you keep the drinks to a minimum.
