Sleeping and breathing

When im about to just drop off to sleep, i actually wake myself up in a bit of a jump as im NOT breathing !! i know im not imagining it as i was dropping off next to hubby the other night and he said i woke with a startled gasp !!

Also when im asleep and wake a little (as people sometimes do through the night) for about a split second its like i havent got the muscle strength to swallow. This is only for a split second, what is this?? is it because your body shuts down totally when your asleep and im just noticing that split second while my brain tells me to swallow do you think. I started on Prozac a month ago, i was wondering if that has anything to do with it, as its just started happening, (the swallowing) not the breathing, i used to get it all the time when i was fatter, im much thinner now.

Any help would be appreciated please

Re: Sleeping and breathing

You should get screened for sleep apnea as you had this once before.

Re: Sleeping and breathing

I agree you should get checked for sleep apena because that is symptoms of it.Does'nt mean that is what it is but worth checking into.I have had this same stuff only it was during my last two pregnancies.Once I had the babies it stopped. So I never got it checked. You should though.

Re: Sleeping and breathing

I did tell the stomach and cardiac doc about it, neither were too worried about it. When i was 4 stone heavier i used to get it a lot, i think its stress realted as i didnt have it for a long time, and recently i was put on Prozac for panic attacks, and its come back to a milder degree again. I'll mention it to my Doc again this week.
