I have been on Prozac 20mg for just over a month now. I dont get the classical panic attacks, but i have been suffering with debilitating shortness of breath episodes which my Doc has put down to severe anxiety. I feel happier in myself, but it has not got rid of the attacks, after a month, im still having them on a daily basis, although probably not so severe.
My question is does anyone else have same symptoms as me and is on Prozac also for this? if so how long, or does it completely knock these episodes on the head althogether?
Prozac, an SSRI, is a mood stabilizer. And it has done its job. It has made you happier. But since it has not corrected your breathing problem, then something else may be wrong.
I find it interesting that your doctor did not put you on a benzodiazepine in addition to the SSRI if your anxiety is extreme. Benzo's reduce your 'awareness' level so that tiny little things don't bother you. If you find yourself getting bent out of shape over little things, this may be for you.
If not, you may try going to a GP or pulmonary specialist to see if you have asthma or a breathing disorder.
I think a Benzo would be something to talk to your Dr. about along with Prozac. Prozac ia a good medication in my opinion. And it is working for you. Ae you having any side effects other than the air hunger?
No im having no other symptoms other than this Air Hunger. I feel a little bit not quite with it , if you know what i mean. Sort of a little dreamy and tired, but ive put that down to the Prozac. But really apart from that i just get these anxiety episodes that come out as needing to get a full breath in too often.
I was under a cardiologist for a year about 16 months ago, and that was for palpatations, but my heart was checked i was having regular ECG's and i dont get palpatations any more. So im pretty sure my heart is ok, and the Doctor and my CBT therapist say its not panic attacks as such, but a form of stress and anxiety.
I thought the Prozac would take it away , and i suppose after only just 5 weeks, im hoping for a bit too much. Just wanted to know if anyone has same symptoms as me without other symptoms and have either or not responded to Prozac 20mg per day.
I am thinking that maybe you should talk to your doxtor about going on a benzo for a while to relax you a bit. Also, yoga would be good. They do focus on breathing. It will take a while to get used to it but it worth a try! Also, meditation or visualization tapes would focus on the same thing.
i would stay on the Prozac if you have no other side effects. And give it some more time
