Weight gain with paxil please help - Anxiety Message Board

I have been on paxil for a year now, and since I have been on paxil I have gone from 154lbs in July to 195 this is out of control, I cannot seem to drop the weight and now wonder if it is indeed the paxil causing this huge gain in weight. I need a drug that will not make me gain weight, I was told Zoloft worked with no weight gain, I really need help.

Zoloft works great for me. I ahve not gained any weight. In fact I have lost a few in the past 6 weeks I have been on. I am really starting to love this med.

I had gained weight on a few ADs in the past but not this one.

Paxil I have been told works good for anxiety but has the side effect of weight gain. Zoloft is said to be "weight neutral".

I have tried every antidepressant and I gained at least 40 lbs on all of them. Some people don't. Sorry just sharing my experience. I have been doing this for 10 years. good luck.

just curious---
Do you people think SSRI's increase your appetite?--thereby eating more...
Or do you think it has side effects, like waterweight gain, changing hormones, etc...?
Kind of like how steroids act?

I'm on low-dose celexa, and I've noticed an increase in my appetite....
But, it could also be due to the fact that I'm recuperating from some illnesses.

I think it is a mixture.

I think some slow your metabolism. And I also think that once you start to feel a little better your wanting to eat.

I never changed my eating habits and continued to work out even more and I still gained.

This did not happen to me on Zoloft or prozac (or the short time I was on it).

It really is upsetting when the weight packs on because we don't want to end up with another health problem like high blood pressure, diabetic, etc.
