Anxiety and Depression - Anxiety Message Board

This is my first attempt at discussing my problems on a message board. I am interested in any personal experience anyone has in dealing with anxiety and depression. I feel hopeless, overwhelmed, adrift. I feel overcome by agitation and anxiety in around people. I can't find satifaction in anything. And this leads to added feelings of inadequacy...unable to cope, unable to make changes. I have developed an added drinking problem. All of this, I can recognize as completely irrational behavior and still...I just feel incaple, alone, and again hopeless. I am interested in any information anyone has about righting the ship.

Hi there!

I'm 27 and have had depression/anxiety issues since I was in my teens. My teens were hell to get through because I was always feeling hopeless, sad, depressed, worried and anxious a lot of the time. I wasn't able to enjoy a normal teenage life the way I should have been able to do. I started taking Zoloft at 18 and it changed my life for the next 8 years. I got off of it for about a year thinking that I would be ok and wouldn't need it. A couple months ago everything came back and I started to feel hopeless and down again. I'm now on another antidepressant, Lexapro and I feel as though I'm better. I going to counseling as well as an additional benefit. There is help out there for you, believe me! Whether it's meds, counseling, or both, you need to be willing to try some things and see what works for you. There is no reason you should go on feeling the way you do when you can be helped. I really hope things get better for you! Take care of yourself
