Re: how long will it take for my beta blocker to work

I believe beta blockers work immediately. They are for your heart rate and blood pressure. Your BP may shoot up when you're real anxious, that's why I have to take one. But, they do not stop or prevent anxiety - they just keep your blood pressure in check so it doesn't shoot up when you are very anxious. Hope this
helps.

Best wishes,

JB

Beta blockers have somewhat an immediate effect but full effects take about two weeks to get to a calming effect and less dizziness.

And I'm sure your doctor covered this with you...do NOT stop taking them suddenly under any circumstances.

Re: how long will it take for my beta blocker to work

i keep reading this and its just simply not true. plenty of people take beta blockers for anxiety and it works fine. it also doesn't come with all of the junk you have to deal with antidepressants. beta blockers help alot with the physical symptoms of anxiety which are by far the worst part

( removed )

its the second day and my blood pressure and pulse are still kinda high. i wonder why its not going down

Re: how long will it take for my beta blocker to work

Give it a few days. I'm taking a similar B1 selective and it was about 3-4 days before I noticed a steady drop in BP.
Works great on the anxiety and hypertension but the cold hands and feet do take some getting used to, one of the side effects you may have...

Re: how long will it take for my beta blocker to work

I'm on 50 mg of lopressor. only thing it helps me with is rapid heartbeat. My face still turns red and my BP still spikes. I been on it for about 2 and a half months. I should be getting off it next week, depending on what my cardiologist wants to do. ( went for an echo yesterday cause he wanted to make sure it was indeed just from anxiety) he said once we figure out it's anxiety related will work on that. Cardiologists can prescribe anxiety medication?
