How do you travel? - Anxiety Message Board

I havent been more than 100miles away from home or on an aeroplane for 16years, due to anxiety and an ear problem. My poor kids never get to go anywhere. This summer I would really love them to be on a plane and go somewhere nice but I am terrified at the thought of travelling away from home. I'm not even free of anxiety when I AM at home!

How do any of you get the courage to travel? Also I dont want to spend a week away all upset just waiting to get home, when it's supposed to me a holiday!

I just hate feeling so out of control. I'm such a strong person in other ways but the anxiety about being away from home really gets to me.

My big stress at the moment is to decide whether to actually book the holiday or not! What if I tell the kids we're going and then we have to cancel because of my fear? I just can't build up their hopes and then dash them.

I am trying short daily trips at the moment but it's such an effort. Do you ever envy people who never have to even think before they leave the house because it's just natural to them to walk out the door? I used be one of them!
