Day 3 of Prozac

Hi Everyone,

I have a couple of questions and I hope there is somebody that can relate.

After weeks of going back and forth on whether to hop on the SSRI train, I finally dove in on Tuesday of this week. With all of the good and bad I know about these types of drugs, I went into taking Prozac as open minded as I could with the thought of taking it one day at a time.

The first two days that I took the 5mg of Prozac (gen 10 mg), I saw a very noticeable difference in my anxiety level. I thought to myself that this is just to good to be true, but I was very happy with the way I was feeling.

Well day three comes (Thursday) and so much for the "feeling good". It was a day filled with heightened anxiety (and some other odd sensations) and it was different than what I would normally go through, so I knew it was Prozac related.

I did some research last night to see if it was possible to achieve some sort of relief in such a short period of time after starting Prozac and I was surprised to find that in some cases this does happen.

My question is, how can the first two days feel so good and then today is just garbage? Is this just a part of the process until the med takes full effect?

I don't want to say that this was a placebo effect, because as I said, I really didn't take any expectations into taking this med (who knows, maybe my sub-conscious did, ).

I guess today just caught me off guard with the way the past two went, which was disappointing. I do intend to continue, I just am hoping that today was just a bump in the road.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Day 3 of Prozac

I'm on prozac,

My doc told me it would take atleast 2-3 weeks before it stated working.

I'm fight another sickness that is causing anxiety, but after being on prozac now for 3 months, I think I'll always be on it.

Re: Day 3 of Prozac

Well day 4 went the way of day 3. It was a better morning but the afternoon was not fun.

I am surprised the anxiety I'm getting with only taking 5mg of Prozac. I don't know if this is par for the course, I am just way over sensitive or having this reaction with such a small dose whether this med just isn't going to work.

Should be a interesting weekend.

Re: Day 3 of Prozac

Dude, give it time.

like I said, my doc said it will take a few weeks for it start workin.

5mgs is a VERY, VERY small amount.

did your DR. tell you to take 2 a day after a week?

Hang in there for a little bit. You WILL feel much better in a few weeks.

Re: Day 3 of Prozac

Thx, mrt7777. My doc did say to go up to a whole pill (10mg) after a week. But I think it was with the thought that if everything felt fine. I just can't see increasing it right now if 5 isn't smooth. We'll see......

As I said, I do intend to stick it out, so please excuse my whinning during the process
