Re: Anxiety and high blood pressure?

Anxiety does cause your blood pressure to rise at times but you need to see a doctor to get it checked out because mine is the same without my high blood pressure medicine. I have white coat fever so when I go into the doctor my blood pressure rises. Have you tried meditation which can lower your blood pressure. You just don't want to go too long with that reading because in the long run it can cause damage. I guess the normal bp range is 120/70. Don't panic though your ok just get it checked out just to be safe.

Re: Anxiety and high blood pressure?

Go see a doctor and get your BP checked out. They don't call it "the silent killer" for nothing. Really - go get it checked. They can put you on something low dosage if needed, but you need to monitor it.

Search the net for tons of advice on hypertension, foods to eat, etc. Don't run away from it.

Re: Anxiety and high blood pressure?

Hi DTrotter9

Anxiety does have a big effect on blood pressure, I know. When I am at home and feel calm my blood pressure is normal. When I have to to to the Dr. I can send it up and I mean really Up!!!

A blood pressure of 139/90 is considered borderline hypertension. You could probably get it to go lower if you deal with the anxiety that your feeling.

Also, stay away from salty foods and alcohol, that will definitely raise your blood pressure.

Don't be afraid to go to the Dr. and have it checked. Buy a at home blood pressure monitoring machine and take your blood pressure when your calm. Write down your readings and bring them in with you to the dr. along with your machine. This will give you and accurate range with the dr.

Just don't go panicking because that just doesn't help. Your numbers are alittle high, but nothing to worry about.

Take care,

Missy

Re: Anxiety and high blood pressure?

Because of my anxiety, even at home my blood pressure fluctuates between mid to high 120's, to low to mid 130's. Doctor said it's normal for very high-strung people with an anxiety disorder. I also have white-coat hypertension, where my blood pressure will rise to 150/90 in some cases at a doctor (particularly a new doctor).

When I went due to the blood pressure + anxiety, the doctor ran all sorts of tests because I was convinced my heart was having problems. He sent me off for blood work, gave me a chest xray and did an EKG - all came back normal. He told me it's most likely white-coat hypertension. I go back to see him in a month.

139/90 is not bad. It should be lower but it's manageable blood pressure. Like myself, I feel if I learn to properly manage my anxiety and OCD, my blood pressure will return to the state it was years ago when I was in the 115/60 category. It's all about finding what works for you.
