Every "behavioral unit", i.e. psych ward is different. If they determine that you might harm either yourself or someone else, you become a 5150, -- or worse a 5152. It does sound like you are having an emotional "melt down" and in desperate need of someone qualified to talk to.
If your medical insurance has a crisis number, call it. If not, try suicide hotline. I called it once, and spoke for almost an hour to a woman who was the same age as I was, and who actually lived in the same town. Point being: we instantly connected and she helped tremendously by merely talking.
