Need information on Risperdal

Hi- I have just starting dating someone on Risperdal. He said he is only taking .5 mg and his doctor prescribed it to help him sleep. He thinks he can't sleep because he is also taking Paxil (12.5 mg) and that a side effect of the Paxil is insomnia.

I understand that Risperdal is labeled as an antipsychotic, which is the reason hearing about this is making me concerned. He claims he has not been diagnosed with mental illness, just anxiety problems. I was wondering if someone could tell me whether it sounds like he is being straight with me or not.

Re: Need information on Risperdal

Many times antipsychotics are used in small doses to help with anxiety and sleep. The "normal" dose for psychotic illness is 4 mg. If he is on 1/8th of that- no worries. It sounds like you might have a bias towards mental illness- anxiety IS a mental illness.
