Anxious to start my new medication...?

I just joined and am not sure really what I'm looking for but I am switching my depression medications from 60mg of Celexa (now weaned to 20mg) to 20mg of Prozac.

Not sure if this is the right forum but I've had GAD and panic attacks since I can remember, and this situation I have is exactly the same situation I went through for years about being too anxious to start any anti-anxiety meds. I'd fill the script and be too nervous to take them, read all the negatives. Well I got over that and Celexa helped with both my depression and anxiety along with my Xanax.

Now the FDA says 40mg tops daily for Celexa, and that just wasn't working. So now I am suppose to start my 20mg daily of prozac and am frightened by the thought of increased anxiety at first!

Anyone know the feeling?
What did you do if you were too anxious to start a med? If you did start and get anxious, what did you do? Stop...or keep going hoping it would be just a storm before the calm?

Any advice is great!

I also take 20m of add.xr 2x a day for ADHD...which never caused anxiety for me. But Prozac I heard can cause tiredness or anxiety? Plus weight gain or weight loss? All the different potential side effects on the complete opposite side of the spectrum! How frustrating!

Re: Anxious to start my new medication...?

Hey there. As long you have some Xanax you should be okay starting the Prozac, but if you are really scared, maybe you should ask for tablets that you can cut in half and start off on only 10mg a day? And get used to that for at least a week and then go up to 20mg.

I tend to be pretty sensitive to side effects, and that was how my doctor started me on Prozac and it wasn't that bad that way.
Recently I have just jumped from 20 to 40mg a day and I have had some anxiety doing that, but it is getting better.

I do get some sleepiness with Prozac, but I also feel like that subsides as I get used to it.If it is bad for you,you could try taking it at bedtime instead of the morning.

I have usually lost weight when I have been on Prozac. The last year I gained weight but it turns out it was from something else and NOT the Prozac.
Since I have upped my dose I have lost 5 pounds.

Overall, once you adjust,I feel like Prozac can help a lot with Panic attacks.
