I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with the anxiety episodes I have. My GAD was diagnosed about 10-years ago and had been under control up until perhaps 2 years back or so. I would begin getting these anxiety episodes that would last about a week then diminish.
First doc and I agreed to up my paxil and then added buspar to the mix, which really seemed to help. But as stress in my life increased, I had to up the buspar a bit more. Not taking a lot but still needed a bit more. Now have added xanax for emergencies, like I am having right now. The episodes last about 5 to 7 days and then diminish, but it is hell on earth while they are here.
I dont want to be taking a lot of xanax because of the dependence issue with the med, so does anyone have any advice.
the length of time between episodes varies, but I can go weeks with no problem and then they return. this episode was odd in that the stress that I was experiencing ended and then two days later the anxiety kicked in.

hi there potog01,im Cinders and im 33 years old from the uk (england)
ive been suffering from anxiety and panic disorder since i was 15.
ive been on a various amout of medications as to which none have worked for me.
it wasnt untill 5 weeks ago,i was put on a beta blocker called Propranolol,i was on a 40ml dose 3 times a day,but that was too much for me,so it got downed to 10mil 3 times a day,and let me tell you this......after all these years of trying this and trying that, the propranolol has been a life saver,a god send.
it would be worth going back to your gp and asking about beta blockers.
i really do feel for you and totally understand how your feeling.
please let me no how you get on and hope ive helped in any way.

Ciinders, Thank so much for taking the time to reply to me. I will definitely speak with my GP about this. I have set an appointment with a doc who specializes in anxiety meds and am hoping to find some help there. Feel free to give me a shout also if you need to, I am always around. xxoo

good evening PG,im not doing to bad thanks, and im glad your feeling better.
My days been very calm,or should i ssay calmer than ive been all week.
today ive not had one panic or anxiety attack (which is a 1st for me)
i did have a few heart palpitations earlier that scared me,not had them before,it was awful, and was just wondering how there caused?
ive had ecg's and blood tests more times than ive had hot dinners and all came back with no problems.
now as silly as this sounds,im now constantly worrying about these palpitations i had earlier, just as id had an okish day too
ive no idea whats causing them as i dont feel stressed,i dont do caffiene or smoke and i eat healthy,im scared that my hearts just going to stop! how silly does that make me sound ;(
Hey Cinders, hope all is well for you. I ended up with a dental infection that kicked my anxiety in to high gear for a few days, but it has finally calmed down a bit. I hate this, getting really old.
Hello Cinders, have not spoken for a while. Was thinking of you today as I was going goofy. Started a freak-out on Saturday and it is hanging on, making me crazy. Dealing with the 4th of July and family that is so out of touch with being in any way nice is very difficult and today it was almost impossible. Just feeling stressed and it is getting me down.
