Take deep breaths and tell yourself it's just anxiety. If you need to step away from the situation for a few minutes to try and calm yourself down. I too get anxiety at social events so I know what you are going thru. Good luck!!!
Thanks. I ended up taking a .25 of Xanax and about an hour later I finally mellowed out. Ugh. I had anxiety all day and I knew that trying to do something was probably going to result in a full blown attack but I was hoping for the best.
I notices that when this happens to me, I try to use rationale. I will take a deep breath, and ask myself what am I afraid of? Then I begin to realize that my attack is pointless, and that there is nothing to worry about. Try telling your mind to be quiet, stop worrying over nothing. Then get your mind off of it-talk to someone at the party about their day, make something to eat, go for a quick walk. Do anything BUT think about the anxiety

That is where you got tricked by your mind. Using counter statements for these thoughts and imagining yourself doing just fine in the very situation is what you should be doing when such thoughts cross your mind.
