Post In addition to meds - what else helps?

I'm on meds - anti-depressant and Xanax as needed. What else can I do that might be helpful? Yoga, therapy, massage, spa beauty treatments, vitamins etc. Please give me some ideas! Thanks,

weez

I find that massage is very helpful and deep breathing techniques. Also I take a b-complex vitamin and calcium which are supposed to be good for anxiety. I am still searching for other resources because I don't take any medication--too afraid of them. I do see a therapist every week which is helping tremendously. Good luck to you!

Exercise is one of the best reliefs I have found. Also try and eat well and minimize stimulants such as caffeine and ciggarettes. Also eat well not too many sugars. But the Exercise and the Endorphins generated make me feel great.

Aerobic exercise works pretty well for me. Breathing exercises have made a real difference as well. Also...long walks, warm baths, relaxation techniques (which I learnt at yoga), less alcohol (boo) and learning to accept the symptoms instead of trying to fight them.
Good luck!

I have depression and anxiety. I think my depression caused the anxiety because I was always worried about pleasing everyone.

Anyway, I do a lot of things, mainly exercise. But I also do deep breathing and meditation to try to calm my thoughts. I've done therapy as well. I find cognitive therapy really helpful because it works to change my negative thought patterns. It takes lots of practice but eventually it gets easier to stop the negative thoughts. I still have work to do but I'm definitely headed in the right direction.
