how do i conquer fear of "driving test examiner"? - Anxiety Message Board

Dear readers,

Today I went (again) for my driving test & FAILED.

I'm not afraid of traffic conditions nor the duration of the driving test, what I'm tested on BUT I strongly believe it's the mere sight of the examiner getting into the front passenger seat beside me. I get petrified/terrified & it trips me up.

This is placing tremendous stress & anxiety on myself. How can I overcome this fear & get that PIECE OF PAPER known as "the driver's licence"? I really need this licence.

if its that specific examiner - go somewhere else or try to get another one.

If it is just any examiner - tell them you need a minute. Tell them "I am really nervous of being watched" and maybe if you can think of something to say or ask them that would make you feel better. It might feel stupid to say that, but how many times do you want to go back? If it were me I'd look them right in the eye and say "hi my name is Cristyn, I am not scared to drive but I am scared about you watching me."

i agree with city.. i am also nervous of my driving test i keeps putting it off.. as they watch you etc... but when i do eventually go for it i will be looking him in the eye and saying *hi my name is donna and i am very nervous as you are watching me* see what they say.. try it? just be honest and then you will feel more relaxed

dear posters,

i m in deep despair. i have just about given up hope on myself. i failed the driving test today by one point; when i reversed the car, i didn't (according to the examiner) reverse the car enough before turning the steering wheel & so, failed me.

when i saw i failed, my brain immediately "switched off" & i started bawling my heart out. i cried so much that my instructor had to take over the wheels.

i mean, i have practiced so much, spent much $$$$$ & how shall i say it, it's STRESSING me out. Pschologically, i m seriously thinking tat there's something wrong with me. Tat i m old, stupid, useless, bad apple, crazy plain jane, ...

pls, can someone help me out with suggestion? silly thoughts r starting to creep up into my mind & i m starting to believe.
