I was wondering if any ladies have tried a Low Estrogen birth control pill and if so does it really help with the side effects? I just started Ortho trycyclen LO and was wondering if I will have a problem with weight gain. I just got off a pill (Diane 35) that made me gain 15 pounds..Please help... Thanks!!
I don't know -- I'm on Alesse, which is one of the lowest-dose BCPills available, and I haven't gained an ounce.

I've gained weight with every bc pill I've tried in the past - currently I'm on Yasmin and haven't gained anything...in fact, I think I've lost weight.

Pandabaire2 I have heard about Yasmine but wasnt sure if it actually worked, well the weight loss part of it. I dont want to be nosy but could you tell me how long you have been on it and how much weight did you lose in that time. I will understand if you dont want to tell me. But I am really interested in it.

No, not a problem at all - I've been on Yasmin since the beginning of this year - so January. I have temporarily stopped taking it for the time being due to some elective surgery I had. I didn't want to risk blood clots. I had my surgery 2 weeks ago and at the time I was on my white pills from the pack and I had my period. I never went back on the pill by starting a new pack, so this week since Monday I've had a period. I'll probably wait until my next period comes next month to start back up on a new pack again. I should be healed pretty well by then.
I cannot tell you an exact number of pounds I've lost because I don't ever weigh myself. I would estimate though that at least 5 pounds dropped off, but I'm guessing that to be water weight due to the dieretic in Yasmin. Prior to my surgery, I exercized about 5 yo 6 times a week for an hour. Usually riding my stationary bike and lifting some hand weights. I just started the biking since November to tone up my buns and thighs. Anyhow, my clothes are loose and I feel like I look better while I"m on Yasmin...lately I've feel kind of bloated and frumpy again so I'm looking forward to going back on it.

Well thank you and I hope all went well with your sugery and that you're feeling better. I do have one more question though while you were on it did you notice any bad mood swings. I finally found a birth control that doesnt cause the moods but if Yasmine doesnt either than I'm sold. I really do appreiciate that you took out the time to inform me.

I was on LoEstrin and while I didn't gain any weight I had a lot of break-through bleeding and bad PMS. So my dr. switched me to Ortho TriCyclen and while my periods are better, and the PMS isn't so dramatic, I have gained a good 5-7 lbs and get really bloated, (to the point where people have asked if i was pregnant! and have to wear a whole pants size higher right before I get my period).
I am looking for a pill with a happy medium: no breakthrough bleeding, liveable pms, not so much weight gain and no bloating! any suggestions?

Yasmin and Yaz have a diuretic in it so that can help you loose water weight but not fat. It's trial and error with BCP what works for one person may make another gain weight. I was on Aleese for years. It's a good pill but I had more weight lose on Desogen. I got off Desogen cause I had sever migraines.
Loestrin FE 24 is in the same low dose category as Aleese, Aviane 28, Loestrin 1/20, Micrette, Levlite. I gained 22 pounds on Loestrin FE 24 and stopped having periods. Micrette and Aleese I had no problems with. Orth Cept is the name brand for both. I am now loosing hair from Orth Cept where I didn't loose any on Mircette. I did on Aleese and Desogen. All the pills are 21day pills except for Loestrin FE 24 those are 24 day.
You just have to try them and see that happens. There is nothing that is 100% for sure going to make you loose weight or not gain weight while taking them. The Yaz and Yasmin have a diuretic in it but I've heard of people gaining weight while on them. Hair loss and acne are side effects too that ladies may or may not get while on them.
I was on Desogen for years and thought my hair loss was normal. That's when I joined the Health Boards and found out BCP can cause hair loss. While on Loestrin FE 2 I didn't loose one strand of hair. Back on Ortho Cept for 9 days and hair is falling out again.
Good Luck
I've been on Avianne for more than a year, I haven't gained a pound and had almost no side effects except some morning sickness the first week and tender breasts the first 2 months.
