I THANK GOD FOR THIS MESSAGE BOARD AND ALL YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE WHO ARE ON HERE SHARING YOUR UPS AND DOWNS. THIS SITE GIVES ME SO MUCH ENCOURAGMENT. I HAVE A QUESTION I AM SURE WE ALL ASK OURSELF THIS FROM TIME TO TIME. WHY CAN WE GIVE UP 1 ADDICTION, BUT HAVE SUCH A TERRIBLE TIME GIVING UP ANOTHER ONE? I LOST 93 POUNDS IN 7 MONTHS DIETING, WHICH I AM VERY PROUD OF. I QUIT SMOKING LAST YEAR AFTER 2 PACKS A DAY FOR 30 YEARS. WHY CAN'T I GIVE UP MY DARVOCET AND VICODINS? I HAVE BEEN TAKING THEM FOR 2 YEARS SINCE AN AUTO ACCIDENT. I HAVE SUFFERED FROM DEPRESSION AND PANIC ATTACKS FOR 12 YEARS, BUT THEY ARE UNDER CONTROL WITH MEDS. BUT WHEN I TRY TO STOP TAKING THE PAIN KILLERS, I GET DEPRESSION AND PANICKY, WHICH IS THE WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD. CAN ANYONE GIVE SOME ADVICE PLEASE.

I think the answer of why one cannot quit an addiction is different for each person. For some, working the 12 steps through AA and with a sponsor helps them find the answer. That may or may not be for you . . . good luck to you . . . my prayers are with you!

It IS totally unique to each person, but my addiction to sleeping pills ended the moment *I* had enough of being controlled by them. I decided that whatever it was I was afraid of happening once I didn't use them, was something I would rather accept.

I had myself totally mindfrigged over them. I realize after the fact that it wasn't as much a physical addiction *for me* but a mental one. I just didn't think it was possible for me to function w/o them.

Glad that was not true. I thank Goddess for that fact and pray you find your way out as well.

Missy
