TomsWife 05-11-2003, 01:49 PM What meds do they give you while detoxing from alcohol? I'm new here. Hi everyone ! Marilyn Sponsor CRAZE 05-11-2003, 08:39 PM Tomsgirl, When I detoxed from alcohol, they gave me librium and as I recall, some type of anti-depresant. When I detoxed from Oxycontin, they gave me darvacet and klonopin {sp}. I am sure there are others but this is what they gave me. However, know matter what they give you, it is still pure hell to withdrawl. I have heard of some places using general anestesha{sp}, where you are totally out for a few days. It would probably be hard to find a place that does this and it would cost a lot. I wish I had not been born with this disease. Good luck, CRAZE TomsWife 05-12-2003, 12:00 AM Craze, Thank you for responding to me. I just found this site today. Today was the first time in many years that I went with out a drink. I will pray for all of us. Marilyn Jason1976 05-13-2003, 11:43 PM Hello, To answer your question: Most doctors will either prescribe Librium or Ativan. Both of these medicines are called Benzopiazepines which sedate/tranquilize nerves. These two drugs have very long half-lives, which means the stay working in your body for a long time. Please take a word of advice, do not become addicted to Benzopiazepines (Valium, Xanax, Librium, Ativan, Klonopin) because the withdrawals from these are worse than alcohol. Think about it, alcohol is rapidly detoxed from your system, but not these puppies. Truse me those, these are the best drugs in the world for Alcohol detoxification, they will make the detox very manageable and comfortable for you, calming your nerves and allowing sleep, Librium even stimulates appetite. Also, go out and get some Thiamin(e), this is a vitamin that you likely have been not getting enough of. Hope this helps. By the way, I have been an alcoholic for 9 years, so I have experienced many wagon rides and falling off the same wagon. Jason |
