NCgirl1986 04-15-2001, 07:02 PM Ok I am 15 years old and I dont see my period yet (menustration). Is there something wrong with me? I weight about 140 pounds and I am about 5'2" and still a virgin. Sponsor Hamsmacker 04-15-2001, 07:34 PM We all develop differently and at different times. Some girls who are very active in sports, especially girls who run cross country, tend to start their first period later than girls who aren't as active. It has something to do with amount of body fat they have. If this is you then this may explain why you don't have your period yet. Either way, it is a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor to find out what is going on with you. EddieDean 04-16-2001, 12:51 AM Believe it or not, this is actually very common. I had the same problem...at 15 I had only had one very spotty period and nothing else. There is a good chance you have a certain type of ovarian cysts. The way my doctor explained it, I don't have regular periods because there are small, cyst-like sacs on my ovaries that prevent me from having them. These also cause me to have frequent break-outs. If this is your case, they most likely will put you on Provera to start your period (it will work and you will hate it!) and then the pill. I have been on the pill for the past 6 years. It makes me moody at times but my periods only last three days with practically no PMS. Whee!! Because this is so common (or so the doctor assured me), I'm assuming that may be your problem. Still, it could be any number of things and I would go see a gyno right away and make sure everything is okay. If you DO have these cysts, they are nothing to be scared of. But if you let them go too long, they may make it difficult to have children down the line. Hope that helps! lonelygirl 04-18-2001, 02:11 AM I wouldn't worry about it too much. You are still within the normal age range of getting your period, and you seem like you're at a fairly healthy weight. Did the rest of your development happen late (e.g., did you get breasts and pubic hair later than most of your friends?)? If so, you're probably just a "late bloomer." I assume you have an annual physical exam (I know I did in high school, because my school required it), and the doctor probably asks you whether you have gotten your period yet. If you are in good health and your doctor is not concerned about it, you don't need to be either. However, if you are concerned about it for any reason, it certainly wouldn't hurt to see a doctor sooner, if only for your piece of mind (also, since this is something that you want to know, make sure you ask the doctor about it when you go in for your physical). NCgirl1986 04-18-2001, 10:24 AM thanks for the replies http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif Im a lot less worried. I will take the advice. LinkinParkTennisGumbi23 11-21-2003, 01:18 AM Don't worry, I didn't get mine until I was 15, I have friends who got it when they were 16 or 17. ace_chick01 11-21-2003, 02:33 AM Don't worry, I didn't get mine until I was 15, I have friends who got it when they were 16 or 17. U dont have to worry-ur just lucky u will eventually start later, than earlier! U should only start worrying if u r 17 and developed otherwise. wondertwin44 11-21-2003, 02:52 AM I've read that it varies between the ages of 8 and 18. 8 seems so young! If you don't get it by the time you are 18, you should see a doctor about it. Be happy that you don't have to deal with all of the period problems other girls do. I got mine when I was 11. It's such a pain sometimes. Erin1100 11-30-2003, 07:12 PM I didnt start my period till i was a freshman or sophmore in high school. before i had started i was worried that i had something wrong with me. so i went to the docter and he said that if i didnt start over the summer of that year.. which was in about 6 mths that i should come back and they would do testing. I ended up starting about 4 or 5 months after that! .. then i relized that it wasnt such a good thing to have started it!! You are very lucky that you are a late one like i was.. lol. But, i would definetly recommend going to the docter and getting tested. It may have something to do with your activities, height, weight.. really anything. I wish you good luck. God Bless. Erin :) LiveYourDreams 12-01-2003, 06:39 PM I didn't start my period until I was almost 14 and a half. To me it seemed sooo old because all my friends had their periods and had been getting them for YEARS! I wanted to get my period so bad because everyone else had it, and then I got it, and I wanted it to go away!! Haha...My friend just got hers a few months ago and she's 18!!! She's a tiny little thing. Her sister didn't get hers till she was 17. It just depends on the person! |
