HERMIT 05-07-2003, 09:39 PM I am badly addicted to PEPSI. i have had this habit since I was 12 or so and am 35 now. I drink at least 12 cans a day and do not remember the last time I ever took a drink of anything else. Not having one causes extreme thirst and bad headaches. It sounds funny but it is not. This is absolutely the hardest thing i have ever tried to kick. Alcohol was a beeze compared to this magic potion. Any ideas? I though maybe caffeine pills just to break the habit?
MunkyCrazy 05-08-2003, 12:40 AM My brother was addicted to Mt Dew. He got terrible headaches if he didn't drink it. It's caffine. Coffee drinkers have that problem too. Just slowly get yourself off it, as far as I know there isn't a 12 step Pepsi program http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
mine was diet coke from pepsi, hey at least i lost 10 pounds in a month. But yes it is the caffiene, you may try weaning yourself off and using dietary suppleents. you are NOT crazy a caffiene withdrawl headache is the worst
#1Texan 05-08-2003, 05:05 AM Hi Hermit
Back in my heavier days I was up to a 6 pack of cokes a day, when I decided it was time to drop the pounds, I slowly weaned and started walking, up to 5 miles per day, it helped with the headaches.
Now 7 years later that coca-cola habit is one per day, and has been for a good while now.
While the caffeine gives headaches, the sugar can too.
I don't suggest substituting caffeine pills, wouldn't be prudent (as Dana Carvey used to say)
Good Luck!

lisaaahubb 06-03-2003, 11:32 AM HERMIT----I am totally addicted to Mountain Dew. I go crazy if we don't have a 12 pack in the house at all times. So don't worry I don't think you're nuts!

Risky Business 06-03-2003, 11:44 AM Hi, Just wanted to add: Yes, it is the caffiene. Also, your body, stomack gets use to having so much liquids in it....my Uncle when he does not drink beer he cannot sleep or feel good and substitutes Pepsi.
Peace and have a great day all,
Risky Business http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/angel.gif
racingdaysRover 06-03-2003, 04:06 PM Wow, I had no idea. I guess you learn something new everyday...If its like any other chemical your body gets used to, the you probably need to wean off of it slowly so as not to disrupt anything .
timsworld73 06-03-2003, 04:15 PM It is Dr. Pepper all the way for me...1 liter in the morning, 1 liter at lunch, antoher at about 3, and another about dinner...and to think...I have problems sleeping http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
HERMIT 06-03-2003, 05:47 PM Thanks for all the answers i got. I have to quit as I need a pepsiwhen I smoke and need a smoke when I have a pepsi. The smokes are now almost 10 bucks a pack and 12 cans of pepsi are around 6 bucks. These 2 habits cost me around 500 a month. I went without all day yesterday and lay in bed awake till about 3 am. I got dressed and down to the corner store for a pack and a case. I smoked 2 cigs and 3 cans of pop in 10 minutes. Then went to bed and slept like a baby. I will have to try weaning I guess as my willpower is gone somewhere else.
*Heather* 06-03-2003, 09:26 PM Where on earth do you live that smokes are now almost 10 bucks a pack and 12 cans of pepsi are around 6 bucks, Those prices are CRAZY !
I think a pack of ciggs are around $3.95 when I started they were only $1.95-$2.50
A 12 pack of pepsi is about $4.00. I'm in calif.
I have no clue where they cost so much, maybe in another country?

Geneva 06-03-2003, 09:56 PM I have a major problem with Diet Pepsi. Never thought anything of it...Drank it only...no other beverage...anyway had my first bone scan the other day...my bones are a mess...the doctor told me that when the carbonation of the Pepsi hits your stomach the body pulls out calcium to neutralize it...thus bad bones..It took 15 days of not drinking any before the headaches left and any amount of energy returned.
I had no idea how much I depended on Pepsi to get me through the day...
Jason1976 06-03-2003, 10:20 PM Yup that caffeine is addicting stuff lol. I have kicked opiates, alcohol, benzos in the past but caffeine (and nicotine) have always been with me. My preference is Vanilla Coke now. Here is another tangent thrown at ya, a 12 pack of cokes cost $4 here in north central Texas. And on a pack of Marlboros I take a screwing out of $5. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

HERMIT 06-04-2003, 12:56 AM Well these prices are in good old new brunswick canada. The taxes and prices we have to pay are unreal. Im getting out of here soon and getting back to ontario where it is a bit better. If icould afford it i would leave for the us or maybe mexico tomorrow.
Autumn Angel 06-04-2003, 10:45 AM No laughing at all Hermit caffiene addiction is bad. I dont think the caffiene pills will help they might make it worse. Have you tried the caffiene free Pepsi? I know they have caffiene free Coke but not sure about Pepsi. I tried caffiene pills before and they raunched my stomach out so bad. Unless you break one in half so your not getting so much. I am addicted to caffiene also any drink with caffiene in it..coke, pepsi, tea, coffee, that Jolt cola with double caffiene. So nothing to laugh about here its as real and as serious as any other addiction, I just wish I had something to tell you that could help you. Take care of yourself and God Bless.
Autumn.
Autumn Angel 06-04-2003, 11:06 AM Yup smokes are gettin up there. I am in Ontario and the cheapest I have found is 7.75 for a large. Geez and its all tax!! I remember a few years ago they decided to cut the tax off and they went down to 3 bucks a pack so the taxes are more than the price of the cigs!!
kaleblg 06-06-2003, 02:25 PM I can go to wal-mart and get DR.THUNDER, a generic dr pepper. cost 3 bucks for 24 cans. For a pack of cigarrettes I give 3 dollars and usually get change. I smoke marlboros. I live in Mississippi and suddenly don't hate it anymore http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif oh and if u gotta have the real Dr. pepper, its 2.50 for 12

Robin213 02-23-2004, 04:53 PM Hi Hermit
Im addicted to Pepsi also. Im 26 yrs old, and recently i went on a diet to lose about 10 pounds decided to give up pepsi totally, and it was a huge mistake. I thought i was dying. I have had headaches for the last week and swore i had a brain tumor(i have anxiety also) I NEVER thought that it was due to just stopping the intake all together untill i read the symptoms of caffine withdrawl, and read your post lol.. Lastnight i finally gave in and drank a pepsi. Boy im telling you them headaches are the worst! Im gonna keep drinking pepsi, but not as much as i was drinking (anywhere form 6-15 cans a day) Im gonna slowley get down to maybe 2-3 cans a day untill i can just completly remove it from my diet. I mean one here or there. Good luck, hope you feel better! Robin :bouncing:
Mart7 02-23-2004, 06:07 PM Believe my I can relate to the diet soda thing ... mine is Diet Coke. I have to force myself to alternate with a bottle of water ... or I bet I would go through at least a twelve pack a day! :nono:

bluejulie5 02-25-2004, 09:35 AM HI
I don't think anyone is going to laugh---it sounds like a real problem to me.
Try to drink more water, etc.
and I would go to your dr. and ask how you can get off of drinking so much pop.
take care.
mouse62 02-25-2004, 10:22 AM I would try tea (caffeinated) - hot or iced -- instead of the other soft drinks. Tea has enough caffeine to help the headache but is pretty healthy compared to coffee or soft drinks.
billiejean2003 03-01-2004, 02:45 AM HI HERMIT,
If you are still around , i too am addicted to pepsi, i also am a methadone patient, i have gained a good 150 pounds within the past 1 1/2 , and i don't know if it is the methadone or the pepesi that causes this severe weight problem , i forgot to add i drink around the same amout as you, i eat once a day, and when i eat it's very lil' , because i suffer from a hital hernia and ulcer not tto mention the cancer i just found out i have, so you see i eat very lil' . although i have lost 12 pds. i think tha's due to the cancer, well, anyways, are you still drinking the pepsi's ?
well, that's enough for now....
later, billiejean
Banker 03-01-2004, 07:17 AM Let me add that I am one as well. I drink about a 12 pack of Diet Dr. Pepper every day. I've tried drinking water but it's just not as good and my diet pepper is like my security blanket. I cannot seem to give it up. I also drink about 3 - 5 cups of coffee a day. And I wonder why I have anxiety...
