I was wondering if anyone out there could fill me in on what it is like to go to a sex addicts anonymous meeting for the first time. I am interested in going, but I don't know what to expect. The first time you go, do they expect for you to spill your guts about what you have been doing, or can you wait until after a few meetings to get comfortable? Am also worried about running into someone I know. SOme of the meetings are mixed, and some are just for men (and some just for women), I wonder if it's hard to go to mixed meetings and talk about your problems in front of women (I'm a guy). Any insight from people who have attended this type of meeting would be appreciated. Thanks!

When you attend a meeting everything is on your time and as you are ready to disclose. However, it is to your advantage to admit you are an addict and need help. This helps in the recovery process. As far as women and men together it has never bothered me. My addiction is the sames as a mans. Adultry, pornography, compulsivness, secrecy, shame, guilt, etc. You don't disclose details of what you did as much as the generic idea that it was done like I just disclosed. If you do recognize anyone there you need to remember that they are there for the same reason as you. We are not to judge but to help others in there recovery. What is said in the room stays in the room. You do not have to tell your last name or give your address to the group unless it is in an introductiory letter letting them know you wish to join their group. That is the only time I can think of a need to disclose. Once you go you will be glad you did. There is a sense of freedom in being able to be yourself and have people know your downfall and still feel loved and accepted. Any other questions just ask.

Wow, Thanks Karla. You really make it sound like a welcoming atmosphere. If I have any more questions, I will let you know. Thanks again!
