Jasmine,
It's a very common symptom of TMJD. That was my first clue that I had this wonderful disease. If that's all you have you are very lucky. There are things you can do right now, like try not to clench, don't chew gum, try a soft diet. But knowing what I know now, I personally wouldn't wait to long before finding a good Doctor that specializes in TMJD.

Hi everyone,
I am new to this and have been reading your stories. I think I might have this also :(
One night my back tooth began to pound (right bottom side of mouth), I had difficulty sleeping that night. The next morning, I noticed the pounding was gone but, my right bottom side of my jaw was swollen (from back jaw, under throat towards chin). The inside of my mouth (right side) is sore, and it hurts when I swollow, talk and eat.
Is this how this begins? Please help!! I take IBProfen (sp?) for pain.
THANKS SO MUCH....

Sometimes when your muscles are in spasm, that can definitely occur. When my muscles are in full spasm, only my back molars touch. It's a horrible feeling. Have you recently had dental work done? or braces? What do you think has caused your onset of symtoms?

Did you see my first post about jaw swelling etc.? I really do not know what's causing this but its sounding like TMJ

The reason why I asked if you've had any recent dental work done is a lot of people have sudden onset of tmj symptoms from this. Especially orthodontic work, or wisdom teeth extraction. If I were you, I would go to my normal dentist and have them make sure you don't have anything wrong with your mouth/teeth, some sort of infection. Then, if they suspect it is tmj, you're going to have to find a good specialist in your area. Post where you live and maybe someone can help you out. take care--Jill.

Thanks! Now I'm really scared.... I feel a "bump" where it's swollen, under my jaw.

Don't freak out..it's probably your gland or your muscle. When my muscles are in spasm, they feel like bumps along my lower jaw. Please get it checked for your peace of mind. Just relax, because worrying about it will only make you more tense.
